Original Post
2020 is the 30th Anniversary of the Chalk It Up Festival! This year the festival be held September 5 through September 7.
If you are familiar with this popular annual event in Sacramento you know that Chalk It Up is a non-profit that supports youth arts. Chalk It Up accomplishes its mission by offering grants to K-12 classrooms and youth arts projects. To sum up, a very worthy cause.

New “Around Town” Format
A new format is on tap this year due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. If you attend the festival you will want to be sure to wear a mask and to maintain the appropriate distance from fellow attendees.
Instead of concentrating the festivities at Fremont Park as has been the norm, Chalk It Up Around Town will feature artists at varied locations spread throughout the Sacramento area.
A quick glance at the 2020 Festival Map shows sites on the Old Sacramento Waterfront, Downtown Commons (DOCO), Downtown, Midtown, East Sacramento and the R Street Corridor to name a few.
Both sponsored chalk artists and independent chalk artists will create their masterpieces on sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, etc. Note: Independent artists range in age and skill levels and can participate in and around their homes and neighborhoods. For a recommended donation of $25 Independent chalk artists can be featured in the Chalk It Up photo gallery.
Music
What about music you may ask. Well, Chalk It Up organizers have that covered as well. A number of Sacramento musicians will be live streaming concert sets over the weekend on the Chalk It Up website.
Lastly, it appears to me that the only things missing this year are the food and arts and crafts vendors. Well, you can’t have everything. I for one am glad to have the event held this year – so many other annual events have had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.
