(Last UPDATED 2/10/2020) Description of a recently completed “Lady Bird” mural painted by Sacramento muralist Maren Conrad in honor of the film by the same name.
After lunch with a friend last week we took a short walk to view the newly finished Lady Bird mural. Sacramentans are rightly proud of the film Lady Bird, which was written and directed by Sacramento native Greta Gerwig.
The mural is located on 16th Street between J and I Streets (right next to Avis Car Rental on the corner).

Conrad started painting the mural on Sunday, March 4, the same day the Academy Awards aired. The mural features the profile of Saoirse Ronan, the actress who played Lady Bird (aka Christine) in the film.
The Oscars
The film had been nominated for Oscars in five categories:
- Best Picture
- Best Director
- Best Writing, Original Screenplay
- Best Actress, Leading Role
- Best Actress, Supporting Role
Everyone in Sacramento was rooting for Lady Bird to win at the Oscars – but alas it was not to be.
Golden Globe/Spirit Award
Lady Bird did, however, win a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Greta Gerwig took home a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay.
Ronan, it should also be noted, won a Golden Globe for Lady Bird – Best Actress, Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
