Open House & Sale
The Sacramento Weavers’ & Spinners’ Guild held their annual open house and sale on the weekend of February 11 and 12. I made my way to the Shepard Garden & Arts Center on that Sunday to check out the show & sale. This was my first time attending the event.
On display were a number of beautiful member-made lengths of cloth and clothing, as well as dyed and undyed natural fibers ready to be spun.
Of particular interest to me were the demonstrations of weaving and spinning. Several Guild members had set up their looms and spinning wheels and were busily plying their craft while answering questions from attendees. I stopped several times as I made my way around the Garden & Arts Center to watch the demonstrations and listen to the exchanges.
As I walked through the exhibits I was encouraged several times to “touch” the items on display. Truth be told, it was hard not to reach out and touch the natural fibers on display in order to compare one to the other.
To Sum Up
To sum up, if you have an interest in fiber art a visit to this annual event will be worth your while. I thought that spinning, once you had learned the fundamental’s, looked to be a very relaxing pastime.
