Description of Second Saturday Midtown, an all-day event that includes art, music and family-friendly activities.
After a hiatus, Second Saturday is back! The event will be held May through October – so six months of art and entertainment in Midtown Sacramento to look forward to. Most, but not all, activities will be free.
I know that many other Sacramentans will welcome the return of what was a Sacramento tradition and a favorite pastime for many years. Second Saturday Midtown, however, is more than the return of the Second Saturday art walk.
Second Saturday Midtown Activities
Activities during Second Saturday will include:
- An enhanced Midtown Famers Market (8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) now with yoga, live art experiences and the Garden, a beer and wine experience
- Hands-on arts activities (Noon to 4:00 p.m.) for families and 12 and under youth at Fremont Park
- Celebration of Chicano culture (Noon to 4:00 p.m.) with music, art, and car show at Muir Park
- Second Saturday art walk (4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) with buskers and activity throughout Midtown
- Movies at Sutter’s Fort (at sunset in May, June, and October)
- Second Saturday afterparties (after 10:00 p.m.) at 10 pre-approved bars or venues with enhanced art experiences such as live performances, comedy, and dance.

In addition to the above, individual Midtown Sacramento businesses may join in the fun by offering an event and/or experience not directly tied to Second Saturday Midtown.
The Midtown Association in its Q&A states that each Second Saturday will be “a unique experience, featuring live art exhibitions, musical and dance performances, family-friendly demonstrations, and food and drink at your favorite Midtown bars and restaurants.”
A map of all the attractions and a list of activities will be available on the Second Saturday webpage.
Lastly, as you know if you have participated in the Second Saturday art walk in previous years, the best way to get around is walking (or biking/scootering). Trying to drive from place to place amid the crowds strolling around Midtown on the sidewalks and in the streets is no fun. So, find a parking space if you are driving and walk from there.
