Description and review of lunch at the 19 Handles Pub & Grill, a casual eatery and bar located on Arden Way in Sacramento.
A friend invited me to lunch and suggested 19 Handles Pub & Grill. A group of Sacramento Walking Sticks had stopped there for a bite to eat after a recent walk, and there had been good reviews all around.

I had not previously heard of 19 Handles Pub & Grill – and I am always open to trying a new spot so I headed out to meet her on a recent Friday.

19 Handles Pub & Grill is located in a small strip mall near Arden Way and Eastern Avenue. There is a Chevron station on the corner, with the strip mall tucked behind it.
I had no problem finding a parking space in the strip mall parking lot. My friend had arrived before me, and when I arrived we were invited to choose where we would like to sit in the bar/dining area.
After we seated ourselves at a booth-table our friendly waitress brought us menus and water. The beer menu was extensive – but we both opted to stick with water. When it was time to take our order we had a few questions before we finalized our decision. Our waitress shared that a “new” menu had come out earlier that same week, so there were a few dishes with which she was still unfamiliar.

Menu/Review
New to the menu was a variety of “specialty” fries. The Goulash Fries (chunks of stewed pork browned with bacon, cooked with onion in paprika gravy and served over French fries) ($9.99), caught the eye of my friend. I decided to order the Cottage Pie (ground beef, onions, carrots, peas and celery topped with mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese served with a small mixed green salad) ($9.99).
After ordering we chatted and caught up on what we both had been up to recently. It was not too long before our meals were served, but then we were also not in a hurry.
My friend commented immediately on how tasty and tender her goulash was – but partway through lunch the combination of goulash and fries lost its appeal. Not because it was not tasty – but because of the lack of variety. Simply put, as she described it, she became tired of eating the same thing bite after bite.

I was given several choices of dressings for my salad, and I opted for blue cheese. The dressing was served on the side, something I always appreciate. I liked my Cottage Pie well enough. It was served warm, but it was not hot. While it was good, it was not something I would order again. I regretted not ordering the Fish and Chips which had been on my short-list!
To Sum up, if you are in the vicinity and looking for a casual place to catch a bite and a beer you may want to check out 19 Handles Pub & Grill. Please share your experience.
