Description and review of the recently opened Bacon & Butter East Sacramento location – now serving breakfast, brunch and lunch on J Street.
Bacon & Butter East Sacramento opened in early February to the delight of many East Sacramentans and others. The opening of the restaurant at the former location of Formoli’s Bistro had been eagerly anticipated by many since it was first announced!

I stuck my head in the restaurant the day after it opened to check it out – and was immediately struck by the difference between the former Formoli’s Bistro and Bacon & Butter East Sacramento. The space has been transformed – white walls, a ceiling sporting open rafters, counter and table seating, etc. Different yes, but the changes to the venue seem fitting.

The following week I had an opportunity to dine at Bacon & Butter East Sacramento. Two friends came by my home and we strolled over to the restaurant. It was a weekday morning around 9:30 a.m. and the restaurant was doing a very brisk business indeed!
We waited a short while for a table, but opted to sit at the counter when three seats opened up so that we could be seated immediately. Similar to the Bacon & Butter Tahoe Park location the restaurant does not take reservations – it is first come, first served.
My friends had not previously been to the Bacon & Butter Tahoe Park restaurant on Broadway, so I was especially happy to introduce them to one of my favorite places for breakfast/brunch.

Menu/Review
One friend ordered the pork butt hash (chili braised pork butt, yams, kale, black beans, peppers, potato, two eggs, frites, toasted pepita) ($17) and the other opted for two organic scrambled eggs ($3.50) accompanied by an order of Beeler’s thick cut bacon ($6). I decided to try the pear and pecan French toast (Challah bread, custard, pear sauce, pears, pecan streusel, whipped cream) ($13).

Both friends enjoyed their meal, with one happily taking home her leftover hash with the intent of adding an egg and enjoying it for breakfast the next morning. As for me, I found the pear and pecan French toast too sweet for my liking. From now on I will stick to the savory options on the menu.

To Sum Up
To sum up, with Bacon & Butter now in the neighborhood I look forward to dining there more often. I have no doubt that, similar to the Tahoe Park location, standing in line waiting to be seated on weekends, in particular, will be the norm.
