(Last UPDATED 3/18/2021) Description and review of breakfast at Bacon & Butter, a popular restaurant serving breakfast, brunch and lunch in the Tahoe Park neighborhood of Sacramento.
A friend and I recently had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast at Bacon & Butter. We had attempted to have breakfast there on a weekend twice previously, but both times my friend was hungry and not interested in waiting in a long line.
On this particular occasion we were going out for breakfast during the week – so Bacon & Butter immediately came to mind as a possibility.

At 9:30 a.m. the parking lot looked to be full – but we made a second pass and found a spot that had just opened up. There is also street parking in the vicinity.
We entered the restaurant as there was no line to speak of, and we were seated at a table immediately. Bacon & Butter is larger inside than I thought it might be. There are booths on one side, tables of various sizes (including one large communal table), and L shaped bar/counter seating.

When 10:00 a.m. rolled around I noted that a line had materialized – but it appeared that if you were willing to be seated at the bar/counter you could still be seated in short order.
Breakfast Review
It was difficult to make a decision as to what to order – everything on the menu looked appealing. When our server brought us water (served in a Mason jar) and coffee ($3) we were ready to order.
My friend ordered the omelet (beer braised ham hock, jimmy nardello peppers, corn, Monterey Jack cheese, jalapeno) with fruit on the side ($16). I ordered the biscuit, bacon & gravy (warm biscuit, bacon, bacon gravy, two eggs, fried sage) ($13). I ordered my eggs scrambled – dry.
As we sat and chatted we watched as other orders were delivered to nearby tables. Everything looked great and the portions were huge! It was clear that we would both be taking leftovers home – no complaints on my end. For those who may want to share a dish – the menu offers a split plate for a $2 charge.

It was not long before our server delivered our breakfast and refilled our water and coffee. Our server was both pleasant and efficient throughout our meal despite obviously being very busy.
The omelet was declared to be delicious, and it was noted that all of the fruit was both ripe and sweet. My biscuit, bacon and gravy were likewise delicious. I had never tried bacon gravy – but reasoned that Bacon & Butter was likely to be a good place to try it for the first time and I was right. Very tasty indeed!
At the end of the meal our server provided both of us with a container for our leftovers, as well as the bill tucked into a very old worn book (Frankenstein by Mary Shelley).
That evening I enjoyed my leftovers for dinner.
To sum up, based on my experiences to date, if you would rather not wait in a long line – arrive early on the weekend or go during the week!
As an aside – I was really happy to learn that Bacon & Butter is planning to open a restaurant in East Sacramento later this year!
