(Last Updated 2/4/2022) Description and review of Brasserie du Monde, a French restaurant located at 12th & K Streets in Downtown Sacramento.
It was a sunny and breezy weekday when a friend and I headed Downtown to have lunch. Our objective was Ella’s, which had recently re-opened after being shut down since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alas, lunch at Ella’s was not to be. The outdoor patio was closed due to a staffing shortage. We were offered a table in the dining room, but passed on the offer.

After that, we headed across the street to Brasserie du Monde. We had noticed several parties dining on the restaurant’s outdoor K Street patio.
Note: Brasserie du Monde (formerly Brasserie Capitale) announced both a name and menu change earlier this year in May.

After entering the restaurant, we had a short wait for staff to appear and seat us. In short order we were seated and looking over the menu. We had picked up paper menus from the table at the entry, but on each table QR codes are displayed allowing one to access both the wine list and menu via phone.
We both ordered a glass of wine to enjoy with our lunch. After a discussion with the server about how she wanted her burger cooked (pink in the middle), my friend ordered the “Le Blue” Burger (Niman Ranch ground beef, bacon, Point Reyes Blue Cheese Crema, tomato, onions, butter lettuce, house-made Brioche bun with French fries) ($18).
The Croque Monsieur (French ham, Gruyere, Bechamel, cornichons, Brioche, Dijon) ($15) had caught my eye. I ordered salad as my side.
As we sipped our wine and chatted, we could not help noticing that our server was the sole front of house staff. Despite this, she managed to be both pleasant and attentive.
It may be some time before the restaurant staffing situation sorts itself out, so in the meantime it is incumbent for those of us dining out to practice patience and understanding – and give generous tips.
Brasserie du Monde Review

When the “Le Bleu” Burger was delivered to the table it was an impressive sight. It fell short, however, in the taste department. The burger was well-done with not a hint of pink. The house-made bun was described as very dense – somewhat akin to a bagel. The French fries were said to be very good.
The Croque Monsieur also looked very appealing when it was served and I cut into it. However, I found the ratio of bread to ham and cheese a bit too much. Most importantly, while there appeared to be ample cheese the flavor was lacking “cheesy goodness”.
At the end of the meal, my friend and I both agreed that we personally would not order those particular menu items a second time.
Other items on the menu sounded appealing, however, and I am game to try Brasserie du Monde again in the future.
