Description and review of lunch at Cafe Dantorels, a casual counter-service restaurant located in the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento.
Three friends and I met for lunch on a recent Saturday at Cafe Dantorels in Curtis Park. I was looking forward to lunch as I had heard good things about the restaurant from friends.
Parking was a bit of a concern, but I found a parking spot on a nearby street. Later I discovered that the restaurant has a small parking lot (access through the alley in back). Some nearby streets are posted one-hour parking, so it would be wise to make a note of any time limits if you park on the street.
Cafe Dantorels is located in an attractive building on the corner of 24th Street and 2nd Avenue. The interior is light and airy, and there is outdoor patio seating along the front and side of the building.

Three of us arrived at noon, and the fourth member of our party about fifteen minutes later. There was no line at the counter when the first of us arrived, so we placed and paid for our orders.
We decided to sit outside on the covered patio at the back of the restaurant reasoning that it would be easier to converse. The covered patio is good-sized, with a large fountain along the back wall and a big fire-pit table set in the middle of the space.
When the last member of our party joined us she decided to wait a few minutes before ordering as a long line had formed at the counter.

Menu/Review
Between the four of us two ordered crepes (breakfast crepe and eggplant crepe), and two of us placed the exact same lunch order – Chicken & Rice Soup and a half order of the Greek Salad.
It was not overly long before the breakfast crepe as well as one of the two soup/salad combos was delivered to our table. We were chatting for some time when it struck me that the wait had been v-e-r-y long and I had yet to be served. Taking my “number” with me I headed into the restaurant to check the status of my order. Boy, am I glad I did!
I explained the issue to a very nice woman at the counter. She immediately made a beeline to the kitchen pick-up counter and after a brief conversation with one of the chefs picked up a bowl of soup sitting there. She followed me to the table and told me that she would bring the salad in short order.
By this time the fourth member of our party had been served her meal – an eggplant crepe and a banana latte (she had decided to be adventurous). Shortly afterwards I received my salad. The server apologized, explaining that my order had apparently been lost.
No harm done, and I was appreciative of the attention given to rectify the situation in such short order once it was brought to their attention. A member of our group, who has dined at Cafe Dantorels numerous times over the years, said this was the first time she had ever heard of an order being “lost”.

The two crepes were enjoyed, and the banana latte was said to be good. The chicken and rice soup had good-sized pieces of chicken and vegetables. The broth, however, was lacking in flavor. I am not a big fan of bouillon, but the soup broth was in serious need of something.
The Greek Salad, a combination of romaine lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, Kalamata olives, feta cheese and red wine vinaigrette, was delicious! The half salad was also huge – so I did not leave the restaurant hungry despite eating less than half of my soup.

I look forward to dining at Cafe Dantorels again soon. The atmosphere is comfortable, the menu is varied, the food is fresh, and the service I experienced was excellent.
