(Updated 1/7/2024) Description and review of Casa East Sac, a casual restaurant located on H Street in East Sacramento. NEW: See Casa East Revisited below.
I recently met two friends at Casa East Sac for an early dinner. It had been on my list of places to go since they first opened the summer of 2022.
Casa East Sac is owned and operated by the Gibanov brothers – Steve and Ted. Immediately prior to deciding to open their own restaurant, the two had owned and run a catering business.

The location of Casa East Sac was previously a small home which when first converted housed The Neighborhood Pizzeria followed by Joon Market. Both businesses were relatively short-lived.

I entered the restaurant when I arrived to check to see if the other members of my party had arrived. I was the first one there so I looked around to check out the interior. The décor of the small restaurant is very attractive. I really liked the colorful wallpaper in the dining area.
I had been greeted when I entered, and secured a menu to look over before going outside to sit on the patio to wait for my friends. There are several benches for just that purpose or when one is waiting for a table to open up.
It was not long before my friends arrived. One friend had made reservations for the patio which was the perfect choice as it was a beautiful day and the wooden picnic tables had umbrellas.
Casa East Sac has a compact menu:
- Brunch: The brunch menu includes six breakfast items, three small plates, four salads and five pizzas.
- Lunch: The lunch menu offers four sandwiches in addition to three small plates, five salads and five pizzas. (I have it on good authority that the burger is fantastic.)
- Dinner: The dinner menu includes four “mains” (pasta, steak, chicken and fish), three small plates, four salads and four pizzas.
To start, the three of us ordered a bottle of Sonoma County 2021 Sauvignon Blanc ($53) as opposed to paying $15 by the glass.
Sharing a salad and a pizza appealed to all three of us – so we ordered the Casa Caesar Salad (romaine lettuce, shaved parmesan, croutons, house dressing) ($16) and the Tanya Pizza (herbed ricotta, shaved prosciutto, arugula, balsamic glaze) ($22).
It was our server Kristina’s first day on the job, so we joked with her as to how we were making it easy for her by splitting everything three ways. She did a great job taking care of us.
Our bottle of wine was served in a wine bucket on a bed of ice. We had asked to have the salad served first, and when it arrived we all remarked on the hearty portion – more than enough for the three of us. After enjoying the salad, we were all looking forward to the pizza – and we were not disappointed. The pizza was likewise very tasty – with a thin crispy crust.
We lingered for a while, chatting, and enjoying the weather. My two friends made a foray to the rest room (there are two) and reported when they returned that they were “spotless”.
To Sum Up
To sum up, I hope that the third time is the charm. Casa East Sac seems to have all the right attributes – attractive setting, casual atmosphere, friendly and attentive service and good food.
Casa East Sac Revisited
(10/2/2023) A former lobbyist colleague and I recently met at Casa East Sac on a Saturday for lunch. She wanted to avoid downtown/midtown, so Casa East Sac immediately came to mind.
It was a beautiful day, so after picking up menu’s inside I seated myself on the patio to wait for her arrival. The restaurant is counter service only during lunch.
After looking over the menu, we decided to share the:
- Arugula Salad (Arugula, shaved Parmesan, fennel, citrus vinaigrette ($15)
- Casa Burger (1/2 pound house ground patty, cheddar cheese, bacon jam, house pickles, secret sauce, house made bun, choice of side green salad or macaroni salad ($19).
Our beverage choices were an iced tea ($3) and an Arnold Palmer.
One of the owners was manning the counter, and he both took our order and served our meal, checking back a bit later to see if we needed anything else.
The Arugula Salad was good-sized – and very tasty. We both especially enjoyed the citrus vinaigrette.
The Casa Burger lived up to my expectations. The house made bun held up well, and the burger patty was flavorful and done just right. Both the bacon jam and the special sauce took the burger over the top. Yum!
The macaroni salad (macaroni, celery) was lightly dressed, a plus in my book. However, I felt it could have used some type of seasoning.
