Casa Garden Restaurant
First of all, Casa Garden Restaurant & Event Venue is a special place. The restaurant and event center is run by volunteers for the benefit of the Sacramento Children’s Home.
The restaurant first opened its doors in 1974. Embraced by the community, Casa Garden Restaurant & Event Venue has thrived thanks to the 200+ active members of the Los Ninos Service League who prepare the food, serve guests, and tend to the grounds.
The restaurant serves lunch each weekday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. However, if you arrive by 1:30 p.m. you can be seated and dine until 2:45 p.m. New entrees are served each week at a cost of $10.75 to $13.00. Check out the facility website to see what is on the current and upcoming menu.

Our rather large party was seated in the main dining room – a very good sized room with ceiling to floor windows overlooking the garden and patio.
We started out the meal with a mushroom puff pastry appetizer. For the main course that day we had a choice of Ginger Miso Salmon or Tequila Lime Chicken Tostada Salad. Dessert was Chocolate Lover’s Cheesecake. Because of the size of our group, we had placed our lunch orders in advance.
I very much enjoyed the Tequila Lime Chicken Tostada Salad, and tablemates spoke highly of the salmon. The rich cheesecake was enjoyed by all, although I personally thought it a bit too sweet.

It was announced during the luncheon that Casa Garden Restaurant was celebrating its 45th Anniversary that week on May 17th! Kudos to the Los Ninos Service League.
Moniz Family Wines
After that, Rod Moniz shared with the group some background on Moniz Family Wines. He is a winemaker – without a winery. He sources his wine grapes from a number of areas in the region – including Clarksburg, Napa, Sonoma and Lodi.
We sampled two of his wines with lunch, a Cabernet Sauvignon blend “Cuvee Olivia” (named after one of his daughters) and a white blend Rod described as similar to a Spanish Albarino.
Rod sells his wines at a few local outlets, online, and at fundraisers and charity events. That afternoon his was offering a bottle of the red blend for $15 and a bottle of the white blend for $10 – with $5 from each bottle sold going to the Sacramento Children’s Home.
Updates
(8/3/2022) Broken link deleted.
(1/21/2021) The Casa Garden Restaurant is closing after 46 years! Casa Garden temporarily closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, after almost a year, the Board of Directors of the Casa Garden Restaurant made the difficult decision to close permanently. The closure takes effect February 1, 2021.
According to the Sacramento Children’s Home, Casa Garden and its volunteers have been responsible for raising and donating more than $3.1 billion to support Sacramento Children’s Home programs and Services.
I have no doubt that many in Sacramento will be very sorry to hear the sad news. I certainly am.
