(Updated 4/12/2023) Description of dinner at Coconut on T, a popular Thai restaurant located in Midtown Sacramento. NEW: See Update below.
A friend and I recently enjoyed dinner at Coconut on T prior to attending a performance of The Wiz at Broadway at Music Circus.
I was in the mood for Thai food and was happy when my friend concurred with my recommendation. I had previously enjoyed dining at its sister restaurant – the Drunken Noodle on J Street – so I was interested in checking it out.

We found a parking spot right around the corner from the restaurant – but considered ourselves lucky to do so. We arrived at 5:40 p.m. so we still had time to catch some happy hour specials! Happy Hour is 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day of the week.
Coconut on T is a bit of a hole in the wall – but the ambiance is comfortable and the staff friendly.
We were seated immediately, and each ordered a glass of the house white wine (HH $4.00). To start, we ordered the chicken pot stickers (steamed, served with ginger sauce) (HH $4.00). The pot stickers were fine, but I prefer my pot stickers fried. My friend, however, really enjoyed them.
As we sipped our wine and looked over the menu I could not help but notice how busy the restaurant was – there was a constant stream of patrons coming and going the whole time we were there. If Coconut on T is that busy on a Tuesday evening, I can’t imagine what it is like on the weekend!
Review
I ordered the Eggplant dish (with chicken as my protein) (sautéed eggplant with onions, carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, zucchini, basil with garlic chili sauce ) and brown rice ($9.95). My friend ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken (pan fried rice noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, ground peanut) ($9.95).
Despite how busy it was the service was excellent, and it was not long before our meal was served. We were both a bit taken aback by the size of the portions!
My dish was piled high with perfectly done veggies and a generous amount of chicken in a tasty sauce. The brown rice was very good – I enjoyed both its taste and texture. My friend, who often orders Pad Thai, said her dish was excellent.
After managing to eat about half of our meal we boxed the rest up to enjoy the next day. We both agreed that dining at Coconut on T presented a real value.
As an aside…
As an aside: I could not stop laughing when I went back to check what I wrote when reviewing the Drunken Noodle – each of us had ordered the exact same thing there back in December, 2017!! Talk about creatures of habit!
