(Updated 12/28/2021) Description of a visit to Drake’s Barn, an open-air West Sacramento beer garden that opened in late 2018.
Friends from the Bay Area were visiting for several days, and I suggested one weekend afternoon that we check out Drake’s Barn in West Sacramento. Drake’s Barn opened in the October 2018, and I had not yet made the trip across the river.
We crossed the Tower Bridge and took a left onto Riverfront Street in front of Raley Field. Within a minute we saw the distinctive outline of the Drake’s Barn building. The graceful building was designed by Jerry van Eyck, a Dutch architect.

Parking
It was a hot Sacramento afternoon. Street parking in the vicinity was not an option, so we made our way to a nearby public parking lot and walked the short distance to Drake’s Barn. The parking lot offered free two hour parking – and as it turns out that was more than enough time.

Upon entering we noticed on the left the on-site restaurant – PizzaSmith. A number of tables in the near vicinity were “reserved” for diners. There were also a number of comfortable looking chairs located in the shade of the building arranged in a long row.
The beer garden area is quite large. As we walked around the premises we discovered that all the tables with umbrella’s had already been claimed. I noticed a bit later that some of the umbrellas were fitted with misters.
I had read that Drake’s Barn can seat 400, and I did note a large rack with rows and rows of folding chairs available for the taking.
We sat down at an available table near the Yo?Lo! food truck and then headed to the outdoor bar. A wide variety of Drake Brewing Company beers were on tap. Also offered – wine on tap.
After we finished our beverage we decided to leave – it was just too hot to sit outside without misters to cool things down.
To sum up, I will certainly visit Drake’s Barn again – perhaps on a balmy summer evening when there is a nice Delta breeze.
