(UPDATED 4/30/2022) Description and review of Giovanni’s Old World New York Pizzeria, a family-owned restaurant located on Folsom Boulevard in East Sacramento. NEW: See Update below!
You know how it is – you have a particular food you are craving and you can’t stop thinking about it. Well, that was me recently – and I had pizza on my mind.
Now, I normally make my own pizza using purchased fresh dough, but I decided that nothing would do but to order take-out from a real pizzeria.

Giovanni’s Old World New York Pizzeria immediately came to mind as I had not been there for some time. Giovanni’s, which opened in 2001, is a family-owned business serving authentic New York style pizza. Lots of pizza joints say they serve New York style pizza – but Giovanni’s really does. I grew up on the East Coast and I know the difference.
Giovanni’s Takeout
So, I placed my on-line order – a medium-size Don Giovanni pizza (fire roasted sweet peppers and home-made sausage) ($16.95). I planned to make a salad at home so I also ordered a side of their ranch dressing ($1.00). I recalled really enjoying their ranch dressing in the past and wanted to try it again.
The restaurant website utilizes ChowNow for pick-up orders. I find ChowNow very easy to use. Once I ordered I received an estimated time my “pie” would be ready. Shortly thereafter I also received a receipt and confirmation of the pick-up time via e-mail.
I had given myself a little leeway time-wise in case there was traffic and arrived a few minutes early. Parking was no problem. Several people were sitting on the outdoor patio eating their meal protected from the sun by umbrella’s.
The interior dining area of the restaurant is good-sized, but it was empty as Governor Newsom has had to reinstate the no-dining indoors prohibition due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Giovanni’s is doing a good take-out business. While I waited a few minutes for my pizza to come out of the oven several other individuals entered to pick up their order. Everyone wore a mask and was considerate about maintaining an appropriate distance.
I had prepared my salad in advance as I planned to enjoy my pizza as soon as I arrived home. The pizza was delish and really hit the spot. To me the crust is all important, and Giovanni’s once again passed the test.
The ranch dressing was also very tasty, with lots of garlic and dill. I don’t want to know the calorie count!
