(UPDATED 8/23/2022) Description and review of Jayna Gyro, a family-owned fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant located in East Sacramento. NEW: See Jayna Gyro Revisited below.
Jayna Gyro opened last week at the Folsom Blvd. location previously occupied by Star Ginger (Folsom & Alhambra). This past weekend I stopped by Jayna Gyro to pick up a late lunch as I was returning home after running errands.
The restaurant building has been extensively renovated. Of note, a nice outdoor patio has been added to the space. The restaurant features a blue/green color palette, and it is a light-filled and attractive space. I love the wall murals!

A number of people were seated inside and out enjoying their meal when I arrived. There was a short line of patrons at the counter waiting to order, so I had time to decide what to try on this first visit.
Menu
The Jayna Gyro menu is not huge, but it offers a variety of choices including:
- Gyro Pitas and Gyro Bowls (Chicken, Beef & Lamb, Roasted Chickpea)
- Grilled Lamb Burger & Greek Sandwiches
- Classic Greek Appetizers (dolmades, spanakopita)
- Salads, including octopus
- Assorted Dips (served with pita or veggies)
- Greek-style Rotisserie Chicken
- Assorted Sides, including Greek Fries
- Desserts, including Chocolate Baklava and Greek Frozen Yogurt
They also offer a kid’s menu and Take Out Specials that include a family meal for $29 (whole rotisserie chicken with Mediterranean salad and Greek fries or chickpea rice).
Review
After looking over the array of choices, I ordered the Beef & Lamb Gyro Pita (spicy aioli, arugula, lettuce and cabbage salad, red onion, tomatoes, and tzatziki ($13.95). While standing at the counter I also picked up a pre-packaged container of three Pistachio-Chocolate Baklava ($8.00).
As I waited for my order there was a steady stream of patrons in and out of the restaurant. I chatted with Demetri, the manager, remarking favorably on the décor. He told me that they had been going for a “soothing” atmosphere. When I replied to his inquiry as to what I had ordered, he shared that the Beef & Lamb Gyro Pita is one of the most popular items on the menu.
I should also note that all the employees with whom I had contact were cheerful and helpful.
It was not long before my order was ready and I headed home for lunch. The Beef & Lamb Gyro Pita was delish! The meat was piled high on the pita, which was soft and pillowy. The pita also held up extremely well, containing its contents as I enjoyed the Gyro bite by bite. Everything was fresh and flavorful.
A bit later that day I ate one of the squares of baklava. It was a real treat, sweet but not overly sweet.
Jayna Gyro Revisited
(8/23/2022) A friend and I dined at Jayna Gyro prior to a performance of The Color Purple at Music Circus. She was excited to try Jayna Gyro as she loves Greek food.
After looking over the menu we each ordered a glass a white wine ($11). Having already decided to share several dishes, we chose the:
- Spanakopita (phyllo dough stuffed with spinach & feta cheese, served with tzatziki) ($8.69);
- Dip Trio (hummus, baba ghanoush, tzatziki, marinated olives served with pita or veggies) ($10.99); and,
- Greek Salad (tomatoes, English cucumber, red onion, red pepper, kalamata olives, feta cheese, parsley, salt, olive oil, lemon dressing ($10.65).
We were a bit surprised by the Spanakopita, as the dish was one large Spanakopita as opposed to several smaller ones – but we simply cut it in half. Jayna Gyro uses fresh spinach in their Spanakopita stuffing.
We also enjoyed the very tasty Dip Trio and the Greek Salad. The three dishes combined more than satisfied our appetites that evening.
I again found the staff friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the manager checking in with us and the other diners to make sure everything was satisfactory.
To Sum Up
To sum up, Jayna Gyro is a great addition to the East Sacramento restaurant scene. Next time, I may order the Grilled Lamb Burger and the Greek Fries with Feta!

I tried the 3 dips (tzatziki, hummus, and baba ganoush) with pita bread. Delicious!
Thanks for your recommendation!
dined with friends, one of which helped with the mural walls. I enjoyed the rotisserie chicken with the Greek fries, and the coleslaw which was a great combo of arugula and red cabbage. The chicken was moist, the skin almost crispy, and the dips for both the chicken and the fries were fabulous. I look forward to returning and try some other items. highly recommend.
