Description and review of Kupros Craft House, a bar and grill located in Midtown Sacramento.
A friend and I stopped by Kupros Craft House for a bite to eat prior to a performance at the B Street Theatre at the Sofia. It had been quite some time since I was there last.
Kupros Craft House – The Venue

The building that houses Kupros Craft House is a large Craftsman-style house built in 1910. The owner repurposed the building, while maintaining much of the its charm (leaded glass windows, beautiful dark woodwork, period light fixtures etc.) The business opened in 2012.

The first floor houses a large bar in the middle of the room, with a canopy of stained glass overhead. The stained glass feature was designed by local artist Mickey Abbey. Seating on both sides of the bar is a combination of booths and tables and chairs.

On the second floor you will find a series of open rooms with a variety of seating. Also on the second floor is a second smaller bar towards the back.
Outdoor seating is available on the second-floor balcony, on the front porch, and on the street level patio that features picnic style tables. In the past, during the summer, I have enjoyed weekend brunch and lunch on the upstairs balcony.
Help yourself to a menu and a glass of water, find a place to sit, and place your order/pay at the bar. Your order will be delivered to you.
Menu
My friend and I decided to sit at the downstairs bar. We were there during Happy Hour, so both of us ordered a glass of the house red ($4). It was a decent wine and a decent pour, so a deal at $4. Kupros, as one might expect, carries a wide variety of craft beers.
We bypassed the Happy Hour $5 Grub menu, ordering from the regular menu. My friend ordered the small chicken tortilla soup ($5), while I ordered the three Maui Maui taco plate with chips ($13).

I originally ordered the two-taco plate, but when my friend tried to order one Maui Maui taco the bartender explained they could only serve the chicken taco as a single. Increasing my order from two to three solved that problem. My friend was served her taco on a separate plate after we pointed out when I was served that my plate had two, not three, tacos.

Review
I had a taste of the chicken tortilla soup, which was chili-like and had a definite kick. It was tasty, but a little too spicy hot for me. My friend, however, enjoyed it.
Having ordered the small soup, my friend expected a cup of soup and she had to double-check with the bartender that the bowl she was served was indeed the “small”. It was.
The Maui Maui tacos with chips (salsa, cotija cheese, sour cream, cilantro) were tasty, but also a bit on the spicy side. The tortillas themselves were a bit of a disappointment, however I would order the dish again.
To Sum Up
To sum up, while it can get really noisy at times, I really like the atmosphere and the friendly staff at Kupros. I have made a mental note to revisit again for brunch when the weather warms up.
