(Last UPDATED 2/10/2023) Description and review of take-out BBQ dinner from Lefty’s Eatery & Taproom, located on Elvas Avenue near F Street in East Sacramento. NEW: See “Update” below.
Lefty’s Eatery & Taproom opened in March in the location that formerly housed Cabana Winery. The establishment is owned by James Lee (aka Panda) and Julio Peix, former owner of Dad’s Kitchen.
You may have wondered about the name of the establishment. Well, it just so happens that both James and Julio are left-handed.

Lefty’s has an extensive list of beers on tap. Local breweries on the current tap list include Two Rivers, Bike Dog, Urban Roots and Porchlight. Lefty’s also serves wine and cider.
The interior and exterior of the taproom building is appropriately decorated with a vintage beer sign collection. Also, you can’t miss the large panda mural on the side of the taproom visible from Elvas Avenue.
Lefty’s has a large outdoor patio. Dogs are welcome – but be sure to check out the Pet Policy before arriving with your canine companion.
The menu includes salads and sandwiches and a variety of assorted sides (coleslaw, baked beans, mac & cheese, etc.). Vegetarian offerings include a veggie sandwich and veggie burger. Lefty’s serves up BBQ Thursday through Sunday (check out the Weekend BBQ menu).

Lefty’s Takeout
Having heard good things about the BBQ three of us decided to order take-out this past weekend. We ordered the Family Meal (one rack of ribs, one pound of pulled pork & two large sides) ($40.) The sides ordered were coleslaw and the smoked sweet potatoes.
We settled in my backyard to enjoy a socially-distanced dinner, and enjoy it we did.
We were all impressed with the rack of ribs. The portion was generous and the ribs were both tasty and very meaty. The tender pulled pork was accompanied by several containers of BBQ sauce which added just the right amount of zing.
The coleslaw was ok, but then I am very picky when it comes to coleslaw. I have definitely had a lot worse. While I also liked the smoked sweet potatoes, one friend did not particularly care for the dish. I look forward to trying some of Lefty’s other sides in the future.
To sum up, Lefty’s Taproom is a welcome addition to the East Sacramento casual dining scene. I look forward to the time when I can see my way clear to enjoy a beer and BBQ on the patio!
