(UPDATED 3/22/19) Description and review of New Roma Bakery. New Roma Bakery is located on the corner of 18th and E Streets in the Boulevard Park neighborhood of Sacramento. The bakery has been in operation at that location since it was established in 1934.
New Roma is an old-fashioned neighborhood bakery. I have always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, and as an added bonus the baked goods are both delicious and very reasonably priced.
SacramentoRevealed.com – All Things Sacramento (from a personal perspective)
I have patronized New Roma off and on over the years. It is just down the street from where I take my dog for grooming and sometimes daycare and/or boarding. I always make a point to stop by when I am in the neighborhood.

New Roma makes a variety of breads and rolls (French, Italian, sourdough, etc.). Loafs of bread come in different sizes, and you can have your bread sliced upon request. Note: The bread slicer has been in use since the bakery was established in 1934!
New Roma also makes specialty breads at certain times of the year, for example, Irish Soda Bread for St. Patrick’s Day.
I am usually pretty good about sticking to my mission – i.e. buying bread and/or rolls, but my resolve sometimes fails me as I stand at the counter looking at the pastry case.
Case in point – the last time I was there I was buying a loaf of milk bread ($3.25), and a bear claw ($1.50) proved too hard to resist.

New Roma Bakery makes a wide assortment of pastries – numerous types of doughnuts, Danish, muffins and muffin tops, tarts, cupcakes, turnovers, eclairs, cannoli, beignets, etc. – not to mention cakes (including wedding cakes) and pies.
Check out the New Roma Bakery Facebook Page – and you will see what I mean. Order in advance if you want a specialty cake or a certain type of pie on a specific day.
You will want to keep in mind that New Roma Bakery is closed on Monday. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday they close earlier – 5:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively. On Sunday after 1:00 p.m. certain baked goods (muffins, Danish, etc.) are ½ off. This is a really good deal when you consider that New Roma Bakery prices are reasonable to start with!
(UPDATED 3/22/19) Congrats to New Roma Bakery – celebrating its 85th Anniversary this year! That is quite an accomplishment – to say the least. I think I will stop by the bakery this weekend to celebrate – and buy a bear claw.
