One Speed Take-Out Tuesday Special

(UPDATED 9/22/2018)  Description and review of the One Speed Take-Out Tuesday Special (pizza, salad and bottle of wine).

A friend and I recently decided to try the One Speed Take-Out Tuesday Special prior to attending the theatre.  One Speed features a weekly special – Chef’s choice pizza, salad and bottle of wine for $34.00.

I called ahead and ordered the Take-Out Tuesday Special for pick-up at 5:00 p.m.  You can check on the One Speed website (under the Special Events tab) to see what the Chef has chosen to offer for that specific Tuesday. Note:  If you start making substitutions you may incur additional charges.

That day the Take-Out Tuesday Special included:

• Pizza – Three Cheese Pizza (Fontina, Chevre, Ricotta) with caramelized onion, apples and Almond-Piquillo salsa.
• Salad – Grilled Romaine, bacon, walnuts, radish and blue cheese.
• Choice of Clos Normand French Cider or 32 Ranch Chardonnay.

Review

The 32 Ranch Chardonnay (2014/Monterey County) was my choice.

I did not know what a “piquillo” was so I did a google search in advance.  It turns out the piquillo is a sweet pepper of a variety grown in Northern Spain.

The Almond-Piquillo salsa certainly sounded intriguing – and the pizza smelled great as I drove home after picking it up.  I popped it into the oven to keep warm until my friend arrived after work.

I forgot to take a photo of the pizza then and there – and when my friend arrived we settled down to enjoy dinner – and again I forgot to take a photo.  Oh well.

Our original plan had been to sit in the backyard and dine al fresco – but that particular day it was downright hot and we decided to eat inside.  The pizza not only smelled great – it was great.  The three cheeses complemented each other and the caramelized onions were yummy.

The Piquillo sweet pepper had a distinct taste that I very much enjoyed.  I like to make my own pizza’s (using store-bought fresh pizza dough) so I plan to keep my eye out for jars of Piquillo peppers (preserved in oil) to take my pizza’s to the next level.

The salad was the perfect size for two people, and we enjoyed both it and the wine.  All in all we both thought that the One Speed Take-Out Tuesday Special was a very good deal.
