Description and review of Pizzasaurus Rex, a K Street pizza restaurant and bar serving whole and by-the slice pizza in Midtown Sacramento.
Pizzasaurus Rex opened a year ago this month, and it has acquired quite a following. In December 2021, the Sacramento Bee reported that Pizzasaurus Rex had won “best new restaurant” in Sacramento in a recent online newspaper poll.
A friend and I were planning a stroll around Midtown Sacramento on a Sunday afternoon, and she suggested we consider stopping by the Midtown hot spot at some point during our walk as they served pizza by-the-slice. I was game.

It was a chilly day, but the sun was shining and we had dressed warmly so we were comfortable. We strolled primarily on J and K Streets, checking out the various small businesses and stopping in at several. Among the shops we visited were Midtown Bakery and the Mixed Bag.

Pizzasaurus Rex
Pizzasaurus Rex is located on a popular stretch of K Street in the building that once housed Rick’s Dessert Diner. Nearby businesses include, for example, The Golden Bear, Der Biergarten, and The Flamingo House.

Pizzasaurus Rex has both indoor and outdoor (sidewalk and patio) seating. While the menu is limited, the variety of available pizzas include more than one vegan option. The whole pizzas are all one size – 18” x 13”. Beverages include craft beer, wine and soft drinks.
Pizza by-the-Slice
We were focused on the pizza by-the-slice options, of which there were three:
- Cheese ($4.50)
- Pepperoni ($5)
- Dino Slice (6.50) (rotating)
We each ordered a slice of the Pepperoni Pizza and were given a number. Sitting outdoors on the small side patio appealed to us, and we chatted while waiting to be served. While they were not fired up, I noticed that the patio had two outdoor heaters – a welcome addition in the evening, I am sure.
It did not take an unduly long time to be served, and when we were our pizza was piping hot. The square slices were topped with a generous portion of pepperoni and cheese, and finished off with a sprinkle of fresh basil. The crust was crunchy, chewy and tasty.
The pizza was greasy, as only pepperoni pizza can be, and we made good use of the napkins provided. I don’t often eat pepperoni pizza, and I enjoyed every bite.
To Sum Up
To sum up, I look forward to stopping by Pizzasaurus Rex again when I need a “pizza fix”.
