(UPDATED 12/1/18) Description of the recently released Find The Home Chinese Food Capitals list. Sacramento ranks No. 9 of 50 on the list.
Sacramento is No. 9 on the Chinese Food Capitals of America list compiled by Find The Home, a real estate intelligence site by Graphiq. Did you know that Sacramento has twenty-two (22) 4 to 5 star Chinese restaurants?
The 50 top Chinese Food Capitals of America list was developed by using data from Yelp. A “Chinese Food Score” was calculated for all cities with more than 100,000 residents.
The Chinese Food Score factors in the:
- total number of Chinese restaurants in a city
- percentage of Chinese restaurants rated with four or more (out of five) stars on Yelp
- average Yelp rating of Chinese restaurants compared to the average rating of all restaurants in that city
In the event of a tie cities with a larger number of Chinese restaurants are favored.

This rating surprises me, because other than Frank Fat’s, I have yet to find good Chinese Food in Sacramento. I hope your readers make some good suggestions before our annual Jewish Christmas tradition of Chinese food and a movie!
Yes, I am looking forward to all suggestions!
Melissa, on social media I received 26 comments naming 14 Chinese restaurants. Restaurants named multiple times were:
Far East Cafe on Freeport Blvd. with the comment “ask for the other menu”;
Shanghai Garden on Alhambra Blvd.; and,
Yangs Noodles on Stockton Blvd. with the comment “this is where local chefs take visiting chefs to eat”.
Have a wonderful holiday! Kathy
Hi! I’m glad you’re asking about local Chinese restaurants because I’ve recently found one that has become one of my all time favorite restaurants. It’s called Cellar Bistro (I know, odd name) and it’s located in Old Sac close to the Peruvian store. I lived in Hong Kong for four years and this place serves hands down the most authentic Mapo tofu and Salty fish and chicken fried rice that I’ve had outside of China. I would also highly recommend the sizzling beef and onions, the salt and pepper fish filet (cod), and the egg flower sauce chow fun with beef. The decor is pretty sparse but that’s how you know their focus is on making consistently delicious food. Not to mention the prices are low and the portions are huge. The perfect combination! Fyi, I have no personal relationship with these guys, this is just my honest review of a hidden gem!
Thanks so much Melissa – I will be sure to put Cellar Bistro on my must try list! Kathy
I would highly recommend Chan’s on
Stockton Blvd, near Broadway. I’ve been going there for 20 years. Thier general chicken is the best.
Thanks Ann! I will add Chan’s to my must try list. Kathy
