Description and review of a recent visit to SacYard Community Tap House, a purveyor of craft beer located on 33rd Street in East Sacramento.
Since the SacYard Community Tap House “Home of the True Pint” opened in January of this year it has become a popular gathering spot. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are spacious, with lots of seating.
The large 3,800 square-feet outdoor patio has seating in the sun and shade, and features misters, fire pits, and string-lights as well as numerous games (corn-hole, ping-pong, darts, bocce ball, etc.). I was told that a variety of board games, etc. are also available in the tap room itself.

Chef’s Tour of Sacramento – SacYard Community Tap House
I recently visited SacYard Community Tap House with members of the Sacramento Renaissance Society as part of the Chef’s Tour of Sacramento class. See related blog post: Sacramento Renaissance Society
While SacYard Community Tap House is not a brewery, it does have a large selection of 24 rotating craft beers from local breweries on tap. Our class assignments that day – enjoy a beverage and learn from an award-winning home brewer all the ins-and-outs of brewing beer.
As we arrived, each of us ordered a glass of beer/wine/cider of our choice. It was a Tuesday, and there was an excellent selection of ten beers for $5. Note: SacYard Community Tap House does not have a daily Happy Hour – but all day Tuesday is Happy Hour for select beverages.
I ordered and enjoyed the Fort Point “KSA” Kolsch ($5), and noted with interest a “True Pint” marker printed on the glass.
On the patio several long heavy picnic tables and several rounds had been reserved in a sail-shaded corner for the class. We all settled in and chatted until “class” was called to order with the introduction of Larry Zinky.
Larry has been home-brewing beer since 1997. He is in a club, operating as 7 Nuns Brewery, with three other home-brewers. Each of the club members take turns brewing beer while the other three take on all the ancillary tasks. Larry brews a variety of beer styles but he won the California State Fair-California Homebrew Competition for his Pilsner.
Larry provided a comprehensive description of what is involved in brewing beer. He described how it is done – everything from ingredients to the equipment and how the various types of beer are made. During his presentation he also answered the numerous varied questions posed by the class.
I for one learned a lot, and I now have a much greater appreciation for the craft!
