(UPDATED 10/22/2020) Description and review of Sampino’s Towne Foods, a family-owned Italian deli and restaurant located in the Mansion Flats neighborhood of Sacramento.
During the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown I have been staying at home and cooking up a storm. I am at the point where I am getting tired of my own cooking, despite trying out a variety of new recipes!
Determined to start taking a more pro-active role in supporting Sacramento restaurants during this difficult time, early one afternoon I called Sampino’s Towne Foods and ordered their Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. The cheerful woman who took my order said it would be ready in about 15 minutes, so I headed out the door a few minutes later.

Location/Parking
Sampino’s Towne Foods is not in the greatest location, but it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the mood for Italian food. Sampino’s is located in a small strip mall in the Mansion Flats neighborhood of Sacramento. The strip mall is located at 16th and F Streets. You will see 16th Street Donuts on the corner.
When I pulled into the strip mall parking lot there was plenty of available parking.

Sampino’s Towne Foods
My order was ready when I arrived, but before I left I checked out both Sampino’s deli case and dessert case. Tip: Enter the last door on the right to pick-up your order.
Everything at Sampino’s is made from scratch from the crusty bread to the Italian pastries (cannoli, etc.) to the freshly-made pasta (ravioli, gnocchi, etc.) and pasta sauces. Not to mention the many other Italian foodstuffs available such as the house-made sausage. The variety of prepared Italian main and side dishes ready to take home to heat and eat caught my eye in particular.
The Chicken Parmesan Sandwich (breaded chicken breast, marinara sauce, Provolone and Cheddar cheese, tomato, Balsamic Vinaigrette on a Ciabatta Roll) ($12.99) was delicious. Note: All Sampino’s sandwiches come with a small green salad.
A chicken parmesan sandwich can be rather messy, but the ciabatta roll held up well. The lightly breaded chicken was tender, the marinara sauce was more than tasty, and there was plenty of gooey melted cheese. The sandwich was not large in size, but it was hearty. The green salad came with a very nice Italian dressing.
Next time Italian food sounds good, but making dinner doesn’t, I plan to drop by Sampino’s Towne Foods and pick-up one of their ready-made meals.
