Driving past Suzie Burger recently I decided on the spur of the moment to stop in for lunch. Suzie Burger is located in Midtown Sacramento at 29th & P Streets.
I have been driving past Suzie Burger since it first opened in 2008 or 2009, but this was my first visit. I had heard good things about Suzie Burger from friends, and I was in the mood to try their Philly Cheesesteak.
Suzie Burger has a parking lot and nearby street parking. The building reminds one of a retro gas station – and in fact I believe that an automotive business had been located on that corner previously.

As I entered Suzie Burger I noted that there appeared to be ample seating – both inside and out. I was cheerfully greeted when I entered. Both the interior and exterior of the building had a scrubbed, clean look – something I always appreciate.

I looked over the menu prior to placing my order at the counter, and received my number. As you might expect from the name of the business the menu consists of burgers, fries, onion rings, milk shakes, hot dogs, fountain drinks, beer on tap, etc. Also on the menu are breakfast sandwiches and soft serve ice cream cones.
As I waited for my number to be called I observed a sign advertising an annual event I had read about previously – the Suzie Burger New Year’s Day 1,000 Burger Giveaway. The first 1,000 patrons on New Year’s Day (11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) receive a free cheeseburger, fries and drink. While not required to receive the free cheeseburger combo – donations of new and gently used blankets will be collected. The goal of Suzie Burger and the Boy Scouts of America is to collect and donate 1,000 blankets to Loaves & Fishes – a very worthy cause.

I was there before the lunch rush, and did not have to wait long to receive my order. The Suzie Burger Philly Style Cheesesteaks are made with “…100% Choice Sirloin Beef And Are Served On An Original South Philly Hoagie Roll” along with grilled onions, peppers and white American cheese. For those people who don’t care for grilled onions you can get your Philly Style Cheesesteak with grilled mushrooms and cheese.
The steak was thinly cut, and was both tender and flavorful. Having grown up back East, I know what a real Philly Cheesesteak tastes like – and I must say the Suzie Burger Philly Style Cheesesteak came close.

I was a frequent visitor to Suzie Burger when I had a teenager; it was a place I could take her and her friends out without breaking the bank, and they loved the burgers and fries. My favorite menu item was the Lemon Squeezie, especially in the summer. I no longer have a teenager, nor a desire for a 1500 calorie lunch, but I still think of the Lemon Squeezie when I drive by Suzie Burger.
Thanks for the comment Melissa! I think that I may head over to Suzie Burger when the weather is hot and I am in the mood for a milkshake. I can’t remember the last time I had a milkshake – but I do get the urge at times on hot summer days!
