(Updated 10/26/2022) Description and review of The Green Room, an upscale gastropub/cocktail lounge located in East Sacramento. NEW: See The Green Room Revisited below.
Two friends and I recently enjoyed Golden Hour (aka Happy Hour) at The Green Room. The Green Room opened earlier this year in the former East Sacramento location of Bacon & Butter. The East Sacramento restaurant closed at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Green Room is owned by siblings Amber and Billy (of Bacon & Butter).

The Green Room is very attractive. A lot of work obviously went into the renovation of the space and décor. Among other things, I love the hanging plants in the center of the room and the green velvet barstools. There are various seating options inside the venue, plus comfortable looking seating on the cute outdoor patio.

It was a bit too warm to sit outside, so we chose a table inside along the wall and seated ourselves. The Green Room does not take reservations and signage at the entrance advises one to “seat yourself”.
Service
Summer, our friendly and efficient server, arrived shortly after we seated ourselves, bringing water and returning soon thereafter to answer questions and take our orders. After we had been served, she checked in with us a bit later to make sure we had everything we needed plus she came by just prior to the end of Happy Hour so that we could each order a second beverage. That is what I call great service.
Cocktails
The Green Room has a full bar, and offers a wide variety of inventive craft cocktails. One friend ordered the Happy Hour Cocktail Du Jour ($8), and followed that up with a different cocktail (non-Happy Hour) ($13). Both drinks were given high marks.
My second friend enjoyed an Arnold Palmer ($5), while I ordered the Happy Hour white wine, a very tasty Sauvignon Blanc ($7).
Small Plates
We wanted a bite to eat with our beverages, and ordered both of the Happy Hour specials – the Chicken Strips ($8) and Rolled Chicken Tacos ($8). We were offered several dips for the Chicken Strips and chose the green goddess dressing, a good choice as it turns out.
Both of our small plates were tasty, but the Chicken Strips were particularly good. In fact, one friend declared that they were the best chicken strips she had ever had.
After catching up with each other and as we prepared to leave The Green Room, I looked around and the place was hopping! One word of warning – it is also quite loud when the venue is busy. If you want to have an in-depth conversation you may want to enjoy your food and beverage on the outdoor patio.
The Green Room Revisited
(10/26/2022) A friend and I returned to The Green Room on a recent weekday. It was a last minute decision as she happened to be in the neighborhood. We decided to sit outside on the patio as the early evening temperature was perfect.
It was not long before our server introduced himself and took our orders.
My friend checked out the list of specialty cocktails and ordered a Pear Vodka Sour (Goose pear, lemon, ,lime, fig, honey, egg white) ($15). She later tried a Lavender Bees Knees ($14). Both were said to be delish. I ordered the Kith & Kin Chardonnay ($13).
A bite to eat while we chatted sounded good, so we also ordered the cheese board (choose 3 cheeses) ($18) and the Bar Nuts (mixed nuts, spicy & sweet) ($6). The cheese board had a nice selection of accompaniments (plump blueberries, grapes, dried fruit, olives, pickled green beans, etc.), and included a good sized basket of crostini.
As in all, it was a most pleasant way to spend an early Fall evening. The Green Room continues to impress!
To Sum Up
To sum up, The Green Room is truly a great addition to the neighborhood!
