(Last UPDATED 4/10/2023) Description and review of Veg Café & Bar, a vegetarian restaurant located in Midtown Sacramento.
After a recent meeting of the Sacramento Area Bogleheads (Chapter #61), several of us went to lunch at Veg Café & Bar in Midtown Sacramento. The restaurant is located on J Street on the second floor above Thai Basil, a popular Thai restaurant.
I had never been on the second floor of the building before (most recently Level Up). It is a very attractive space. You can take the stairs up from the street, or the elevator inside Thai Basil.
The restaurant is warm and inviting. The walls are lined with art work for sale by local artists. Our group was seated along the front bank of windows in the sun room, a great spot.
Suleka Sun-Lindley is the owner and chef of the restaurant which serves a variety of vegetarian dishes utilizing seasonal produce and a variety of spices and herbs. The dishes found on the menu can best be described as “healthy” world cuisine. The menu can also, if needed, be adjusted to fit vegan requirements. On weekends the brunch menu is compact, but it offers a nice variety of dishes – both savory and sweet.
Our server was very pleasant and helpful. We were provided with ice water and cups while we were looking over the menu. Silverware and napkins are tucked into a glass on each table. We were short of what was needed so I just helped myself to the utensils and napkins from a nearby table.
Did I mention this is a casual establishment?

Veg Café Review
I ordered the market curry bowl (curry over spiced rice and lentils). Others in the group ordered the falafel burger (falafel patty served with tomato, green chutney, arugula and pickled carrots), Kai Krata (sunny side up eggs served in a skillet with scrambled tofu, chili sauce and toast), and the fruit and granola.
Veg Café & Bar also offers a variety of interesting drinks. I ordered the strawberry lemonade which I enjoyed. Others in our group ordered iced coffee, tea, beer and a Bloody Mary.
The first thing we noticed as our meals were served was how colorful and attractive each dish was. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal.

To Sum Up
To sum up, the portions were adequate, but Veg Café & Bar is not a place where you are likely to take home a “doggy bag”. If you have a healthy appetite (or are just really hungry) you may want to order one of the available “sides” to go with your entrée.
