Description and review of Wildwood Kitchen & Bar, an upscale restaurant located in the Pavilions Shopping Center.
Wildwood Kitchen & Bar is an upscale restaurant owned by the Haines brothers (Fred and Matt). The Haines brothers also own long-time East Sacramento favorite 33rd Street Bistro, the Riverside Clubhouse (Land Park), and Suzie Burger (Midtown).
A friend and I recently had lunch at Wildwood Kitchen & Bar. It was a beautiful weekday afternoon and the roll-up doors between the restaurant and patio were open. The outside patio is quite large. We definitely would have liked to sit outside – but all of the tables with shade were taken.
The restaurant interior features bar and table (high-top) seating and comfortable booths. The large rectangular bar sits in the center of the dining room near the kitchen – which is enclosed in glass.

The decor of Wildwood is striking – the white multi-branch chandelier/sculpture and the large moss “painting” on the wall caught my eye immediately. Near the moss painting is a wall of thick plush “cords” fronting a mirrored wall. Very different. Additionally, works of art are scattered throughout the venue adding to the ambiance.
I had enjoyed viewing several smaller (live) moss/lichen paintings at Art Street, but after inquiring learned that the Wildwood moss painting was “preserved”. See related post: Art Street – An Interesting & Unique Experience (Part 2 of 2).
Menu/Service Review
The two of us were greeted immediately upon entering and shown to a booth. As we had some catching up to do we decided that a glass of wine was in order. We settled on a recommended blush wine that had recently been added to the wine menu.
We looked over the menu which features small plates, salads and entrees. My friend ordered the Skirt Steak Sandwich (brioche bun, skirt steak, aioli, arugula, whiskey peppercorn sauce and fries) ($17). I decided on the Grilled Chicken Sandwich (ciabatta roll, grilled chicken, bacon, tomato, little gem lettuce) ($13).

The Skirt Steak Sandwich was greatly enjoyed – the steak was both tender and tasty. The whiskey peppercorn sauce was served on the side. My Grilled Chicken Sandwich was delicious and it came with fries – an unexpected bonus as that was not indicated on the menu.
Our server, William, took very good care of us. He had only been on the job at Wildwood for a few weeks so when I inquired about Wildwood’s corkage policy he immediately went to check with management. When he returned he confirmed what I had heard – no corkage charge for the first two bottles! Nice.
William mentioned that Wildwood had added staff to better serve patrons now that the patio would start to see heavy use with the advent of nicer weather.
Music on the Patio
Wildwood Kitchen & Bar features music on the patio on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The restaurant website also has Acoustical Thursday’s from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and music on both Friday’s and Saturday’s from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Note: Happy Hour is from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
I am definitely looking forward to returning to Wildwood to listen to music on the patio while enjoying the company of friends this summer!
