Description and review of the Winn Park Farmers Market, Sacramento’s newest certified farmers’ market.
Earlier this week I visited the Winn Park Farmers Market (dubbed “Wednesdays at Winn” by the sponsors) for the first time. Winn Park is a small 2.5 acre neighborhood park located in Midtown Sacramento.
The Winn Park Farmers Market, sponsored by Midtown Parks and Sutter Health, opened on August 19th. The market will be held year-round with certain weather-related exceptions. See Snapshot below.

As we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the market is set up to assist patrons in practicing social distancing. Facial masks are required, hand sanitizer is available, and signs scattered around the area remind everyone of the rules.
The farmers were largely set up on the sidewalk closest to the street so that they could easily unpack and restock their product. Other food vendors and several food trucks were set up on the sidewalk opposite with an expanse of lawn in between.
The lawn area had white circles outlined on the grass to encourage patrons to social distance. While I was there several of the circles were occupied by diners enjoying dinner purchased from one of the food trucks or other food vendors. There are also several picnic tables nearby.
The vendors at the market were offering a variety of food items (assorted produce, olive oil, honey, meats, etc.) Non-food items on display included cut flowers and green plants. There were also several artisans selling handicrafts.
I made the circuit around the small market and purchased several items, including a head of organic cauliflower and a basket of cherry tomatoes.
As many of the farmers markets in Sacramento open early in the morning, the Winn Park Farmers Market provides Sacramentans with yet another option (i.e. late afternoon/early evening) to do their shopping and support local businesses.
