(Last Updated 8/31/2022) Description and review of Allspicery, a one-stop spice shop located in Downtown Sacramento across from the State Capitol. NEW: See Updates below.
Allspicery fulfills the dream of Heather Wong, the winner of Sacramento’s 2015 Calling All Dreamers retail business plan competition. As the 2015 grand prize winner Heather and Allspicery received a business start-up package valued at $100,000.
Allspicery is the one and only one-stop spice shop in Sacramento. Glass jars line the walls of the compact shop which is located at 1125 11th Street, across from the L Street entrance of the State Capitol. I love the atmosphere of the shop and enjoy looking over all the wares before I make a purchase.
SacramentoRevealed.com – All Things Sacramento (from a personal perspective)
With more than 200 blends, spices, herbs, chiles, salts, peppers, and sugars in stock, Allspicery offers ingredients for almost any ethnic cuisine. The Allspicery website lists ingredient availability and I counted 39 different types of chiles alone!
On my first visit to Allspicery I was “window shopping” after having lunch with a friend, but I vowed to myself that the next time I needed a specific exotic ingredient that I would return. Subsequently, I have been back several times since.
To date I have purchased an assortment of spiced salts and herbs. On my last visit I purchased some “chocolate” sugar. I am sure that I can think of a number of ways to use chocolate sugar. Two thoughts that come to mind immediately are adding it to coffee and sprinkling it on top of a dessert to make it special. If you have a great recipe that calls for chocolate sugar please share it.
Finally, a “tip”. You can call or fax in your order in advance and Heather will have it ready for you to pick up – or, order via the online store.

This shop is so cute. I bought some flavored sugars for my dad for father’s day because he always talked about making cinnamon sugar toast when he was growing up. I also bought some hickory smoked salt and sriracha salt for a guy friend of mine that just got a new barbecue. It is a little expensive but at least you can buy spices by the ounce which gives you the freedom to try something new without breaking the bank. It would be great if they could put a couple of recipes in the store using their spices to give us a few ideas and a reason to buy more! It’s a great place to pick up gifts but also pick up something for yourself.
