(UPDATED 5/26/2021) Description of the 9th Annual Beatnik Studios Handmade Holidays, a marketplace of handmade goods plus more.
The 9th Annual Beatnik Studios Handmade Holidays event was held this past weekend at Beatnik Studios on S Street in Midtown Sacramento. Beatnik Studios Handmade Holidays features a curated marketplace of handmade goods, as well as live music, food, and activities for all ages.
The doors (or outside gate in this case) opened at 11:00 a.m. and I arrived soon thereafter. Part of the venue was outdoors and part indoors. There was a $2 entry fee.

It was a very windy day, and some of the craftspeople exhibiting outdoors were having a difficult time keeping their wares organized.
One of them joked with me that his stepping stones were the only items on display outside that were in no danger of blowing away. I did not buy a stepping stone, but I did receive an organic Persian lime from him. He explained that Persian limes are yellow when ripe.
There was a wide variety of crafted items for sale, both inside and out. I decided to make the rounds of the outside booths before venturing inside.
One idea that I thought was very clever was the “Make Your Own Wreath” booth. On a long table outdoors there was a selection of fresh greenery you could use to make your own holiday wreath – or you could buy a pre-made wreath if you were so inclined.
I would have spent more time at the outside venue looking everything over if it had not been for the wind. It was a relief to step inside the Beatnik Studios building.

As I usually find is the case, most craftspeople are only too glad to chat and talk about their work and creative process if asked.
Making my way around the interior booths, I was also trying to take in the art on exhibit. Easier said than done in a room filled with craft displays and potential customers like me milling about.
The current exhibit at Beatnik Studios is “Intersection”, a two-person show of works by painter Kathy Dana and photographer Donald Satterlee. The two artists have collaborated on eleven works of acrylic on photography, and each also has individual works on display.
Intersection is on exhibit until January 25, so I may well have the opportunity to stop by Beatnik Studios to really view the exhibit before it ends.
