Description and review of Propagate Plants & Gatherings, a plant shop located on I Street in Midtown Sacramento.
I had been meaning to visit Propagate Plants & Gatherings since it opened in August 2019, but this past week was the first time I stopped by the shop.
It was a weekday near noon and there were an ample number of metered parking spots nearby.
Outside the shop is an array of plants flanking the door – an invitation to enter and explore. Which I did, after looking over the numerous plants displayed on the sidewalk.

A sign on the door gives notice that masks are required to be worn.
First Impressions
As I entered, sunlight was streaming in from the large windows on the right. The left wall is exposed brick which makes a very attractive backdrop for the plants and other items displayed. It is a very cute shop.
I was greeted by a male employee when I entered. After that, he left me to my own devices as I gave my attention to the plants, pots, vases, etc. on display in the front room.
A friend had told me that the shop was “a bit pricey”, so I checked the price tags on a variety of items as I made my circuit. It was not long before I reached the conclusion that her comment was in fact “a bit” of an understatement.
The owner of Propagate, Alli, became aware of my presence as I was looking over the Self-Serve Soil Bar (what a great idea!). She cheerfully greeted me and checked to see if I was looking for anything in particular.
Alli also invited me to check out The Jungle Room, a good-sized room in the back of the shop. Plants and pots of all sizes, greeting cards, and gift items lined the walls of the Jungle Room. Gift items included vases, straw-woven clutches and matching visors and soft throws.
The Jungle Room also is the location of the Plant Lab where one can take plants for a diagnosis as to what ails it. Another great idea!
Among the services offered by Propagate are plant design services for home and businesses. The shop is also available to rent for functions, and it hosts periodic workshops and dinners according to its website.
To Sum Up
While I did not make a purchase that day, I will definitely visit Propagate again in the future. While I may not be willing to overspend on myself, a small plant in a cute pot to give as a gift is a different story!
