Talini’s Nursery & Garden Center is located in East Sacramento on Folsom Boulevard at 56th Street. Since opening in 1976, Talini’s has become an East Sacramento institution. You can count on Talini’s being open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. except for major holidays.
It has always been a spring/summer ritual of mine to make the rounds of the various local independent nurseries to check out their stock. The closure of Capital Nursery was a huge loss, and I was also sad to see the garden center at Target on Broadway close. Those losses were somewhat mitigated by the opening of the Plant Foundry in Oak Park.

This is not to say that I don’t also check out the big box store garden centers like Home Depot – I do. I find that Talini’s is generally competitive price-wise on plants, and they have plants you won’t find at Home Depot. You may, however, pay a bit more for other items.

Talini’s appears small from the front but don’t be deceived – it is bigger than you think. Talini’s sits on 2/3rd of an acre – and it is very well organized. I am always amazed by the huge selection of plants of all types as well as garden art and furniture, pottery, gardening tools, wind chimes, etc. they carry.

Wandering around taking in all the lush greenery and colorful garden accessories is a delight. I always take the time to do so even if I am on a “mission” to make a specific purchase or two.
Over the years I have found the quality of their plants to be top-notch and the service friendly and helpful. The staff on hand at any one time is small and they tend to leave you alone, but I have found that when I do have a question or two they are pleasant and knowledgeable.
Parking can be a bit of an issue. I admit that if I am not buying anything too heavy that I sometimes park across the street in the Camellia Center parking lot and walk across the street. There is a crosswalk right there across from Talini’s.
If you a looking for more than one or two items grab yourself a red wagon to haul your finds as you make the rounds. When you are ready to check out you are more likely than not to see the resident cat reclining in the vicinity of the register.
I have a lot of things that I want to do this summer in my back yard – but first things first. I have a shady backyard so I have turned to container gardening along my sunny driveway in order to grow tomatoes, fresh herbs and a few vegetables. My mission recently had been to buy potting soil, plants and to get my container garden planted. Mission accomplished.
