Sacramento ranked #9 in December 2016 on the Realtor.com 20 Hottest Markets for U.S. Real Estate List and moved up to #6 in January 2017.
According to Realtor.com the market is hitting new lows in housing supply but the demand for real estate is strong – even in what is usually the slowest time of year. Typically the median list price reaches its lowest point in January – but that scenario is not playing out this year. Instead, the median price is holding steady.

New listings won’t be enough to meet buyer’s needs, according to Realtor.com, and buyers are getting more anxious with mortgage rates rising.
Twelve of the cities on the Top 20 list are in California, including eight in the top 10. California cities on the Realtor.com Top 20 Hottest Markets for U.S. Real Estate are:
- #1 San Francisco
- #2 San Jose
- #3 Vallejo
- #5 San Diego
- #6 Sacramento
- #7 Yuba City
- #9 Stockton
- #10 Fresno
- #11 Oxnard
- #16 Modesto
- #17 Los Angeles
- #19 Santa Rosa
Other cities/states that appear on the Top 20 list are: Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Columbus, OH; Colorado Springs, CO; Nashville, TN; Detroit, MI; Tampa, FL; and, Fort Wayne, IN.
As everyone who keeps an eye on the local real estate market knows, sometimes it is a seller’s market – and at other times it is a buyer’s market. So there you have it – it is currently a seller’s market in Sacramento.
