Livability.com’s Ranking of the 2021 Top 10 Remote-Ready Cities. Where does Sacramento rank?
Livability.com recently released its 2021 Top 10 Remote-Ready Cities in the U.S. list to answer the burning question:
If you can work from anywhere, where do you want to live?
The question is a valid one for many of the millions of employees whose jobs switched to remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many employers are thought likely to make the change permanent or semi-permanent.

Livability.com teamed up with Fourth Economy to compile the list of the Top 10 Remote-Ready Cities in the U.S. The two entities combined Livability’s 2020 Top 10 Best Places to Live rankings with data from Fourth Economy’s Community Index. Taken into consideration were:
- Broadband access
- Local jobs that could be done from home
- Affordability
- Robust regional economy
- Quality of life
2021 Top 10 Remote-Ready Cities
- Columbus, OH
- Grand Rapids, MI
- Bellingham, WA
- Oak Park, IL
- Fort Collins, CO
- Fredrick, MD
- Sacramento, CA
- Albuquerque, NM
- Tucson, AZ
- Duluth, MN
To Sum Up
Livibility.com had a number of nice things to say about Sacramento, noting that it is a diverse community with a focus on inclusion and equity.
Receiving kudos were the number of Sacramento high-paying careers and the availability of high-speed internet, as well as its multiple co-working spaces around town.
As far as quality of life and fun things to do Livibility.com made mention of Sacramento’s:
- Farmers markets
- Restaurant scene
- The 28-mile Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail
- Murals/public art throughout the city
Also noted was Sacramento’s outdoor-friendly climate with 265 days of sunny weather and close proximity of Lake Tahoe, and the wine country in Napa, Sonoma, Placer and El Dorado counties.
Finally, mentioned was the fact that for a California city, Sacramento is affordable with residents’ average rent or mortgage payments significantly lower that other cities in the state.
So, there you have it – Sacramento ranks 7 of 10 on the 2021 Top 10 Remote-Ready Cities in the U.S.

Did you remember that we used to live in Frederick, Maryland? Wasn’t surprised to see it on the list because of its proximity to D.C. Good article!
