Description of the door hanger on my door in East Sacramento asking “Did You Smell Smoke?” and my reaction. What was your reaction? I was mad. Were you?
Today I went to take my dog Mickey for a walk – and there was a door hanger on my door. The door hanger advised me that I “lived near the recent wildfires” and asked me if I had “smelled smoke”. I was further advised that:
“Your home has most likely been contaminated by smoke, soot and ash emitted by the fires and carried by the winds. These particles of soot and ash are fine, often smaller than a human hair, and can be everywhere; on your walls, carpets, ceilings, in your pool filters and air conditioning ducts.
They will remain there until professionally removed. Even if you have cleaned your home, you may still have a substantial insurance claim.
All homes near the wildfire are likely to be damaged and homeowners may be entitled to compensation. Damages can be unseen and difficult to identify. We have helped hundreds of property owners just like you recovermoney (their type not, mine) to restore their homes and property”.
The other side of the door hanger advised me that their “average recovery is between $15,000 and $25,000 and urged me not to “let your insurance claim be under valued”.
I was also advised (per the door hanger) that they (the company) were not a cleaning company and that they simply recover the most money possible to restore your home and property.” (I guess this was supposed to make me feel more confident that they were legitimate?)
There was also a disclaimer that “Prior results do not guarantee similar outcome in future cases”.
OK and WOW! I will not add commentary that is not appropriate for those of a more innocent and tender age.
I checked out the California License # listed on the door hanger – and per the official website:
A California contractor license number doesn’t contain alphabetic characters. Each contractor’s plastic pocket license will show the respective license number. Begin entry of your license number at the left position and don’t exceed 8 digits in the license number.
The CA license number on the door hanger included the letter “G”. Thus “FAKE” per the official website. We knew that already – but it is nice to confirm.
(I am not identifying the company in this post because I do not want to be sued).
What is or was your reaction to the “Did You Smell Smoke?” door hanger?
Did you receive a similar door hanger? Please share your reaction to the door hanger. Are you as mad/irritated as I am?
