(Last UPDATED 4/3/2020) The 2020 Sacramento Big Day of Giving will take place on May 7th. Here is one annual community event that does not have to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic! Sacramento area non-profits need our help more than ever this year.
Original Post
The Sacramento region on May 4 stepped up to the plate once again to fund a variety of local nonprofits on the Big Day of Giving – 599 nonprofits to be exact.
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which organizes the 24-hour on-line event, reported the next day that donations were approaching $7.1 million – the same as 2016. This preliminary number does not include donations made in person at any of the events put on by the individual non-profits.
Check out the Big Day of Giving website for the most up-to-date donation numbers.
One of the things I really appreciate about this annual event is that the individual nonprofits are reviewed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation prior to inclusion as a participant. Thus, you can feel confident that the data available on the nonprofit is current.

Additionally, the website makes it easy to learn about the participating organizations. If you don’t have a specific nonprofit in mind you can readily access background statements, needs statements, and leadership statements as well as information on programs, management, governance and financials to help you make a decision.
A friend and I celebrated the 2017 Big Day of Giving at the B Street Theatre. B Street Theatre recently announced a new partnership with Revolution Wines – and Revolution Wines was conducting a wine tasting (gratis) to celebrate.
As we sipped our wine we also had the opportunity (as I was writing a check) to chat with Dave Pierini, a member of the acting company who has also directed a number of plays at B Street Theatre. Preliminary Big Day of Giving numbers for B Street Theatre are $42,425 with 259 donors!
If you missed your chance to donate to the nonprofit(s) of your choice on the Big Day of Giving don’t worry – I am sure they will gratefully accept your donation after-the-fact. 😉
