Description and review of the Taber Ranch Vineyard & Event Center, located in the beautiful Capay Valley in rural Northern CA.
Taber Ranch Vineyard & Event Center was the second stop on our SacTown Bites Capay Valley Farm Tour. My two friends and I had enjoyed our visit to Capay Valley Lavender and were looking forward to a wine tasting of Taber Ranch wines and having lunch.
We took in the scenery on the short drive to the ranch. The Capay Valley is beautiful – rolling hills, oak trees and a patchwork of farms and ranches.

A Bit About Taber Ranch
Taber Ranch was established in 1867. Its founders had made the trek cross country via wagon train to the Capay Valley. The now 500-acre ranch has remained in the family. It is a working ranch, producing almonds and livestock.
More recent additions include 14 acres of grapes, the tasting room and the event center in a 90-year old, rustic barn.
Taber Ranch Tasting Room
After parking, the three of us made our way to the Tasting Room where we found a reserved table for ten set up on the indoor patio. The large room is set up with varied seating areas featuring rugs and antique furniture, all very tastefully done.
The large patio doors near our table were wide open, so we felt as if we were sitting outside. There was a light breeze which made it very comfortable. I made note of the ceiling fans in the large room – no doubt a welcome addition on a hot day.
Just outside the patio where we sat there was outdoor patio seating, both covered and shaded. Both outdoor “rooms” looked very inviting. Plus, regardless wherever you sat, the view was beautiful. The grounds in the vicinity are beautifully landscaped.
On the other side of the room was the interior tasting room. Also tastefully decorated, one wall is dedicated to generations of family military memorabilia, including photos and uniforms.
Wine Tasting & Lunch
Heather (SacTown Bites) had arranged both a wine tasting and lunch at Taber Ranch.
We were each provided with a wine glass, and our server made the rounds with a “taste” of a variety of Taber Ranch wines, both white and red, over the course of our visit.
I noticed that in addition to wines by the glass ($10-$12) or bottle ($20-$32), the Tasting Room offers beer ($6), cider ($6) and several non-alcoholic drink options ($2).
Lunch had been prearranged – wood fired pizza ($14-$18). A variety of pizzas were served as they came out of the oven until everyone had their fill. I tried three of the pies, and enjoyed each one. I enjoy a crispy crust.
In addition to wood-fired pizza, the tasting room offers charcuterie ($25-$30) to accompany the beverage of your choice.
During the latter half of our visit, a duo provided entertainment, both music and song.
Garden Stroll to Event Center
After lunch we had time to take the short walk up to the Event Center. The dirt path was lined with large swaths of native plants, many in flower. Intermingled among the plants were a variety of interesting objects i.e. garden art. Towards the end of our stroll, we came across a good-sized, scenic pond stocked with Koi.
The Event Center itself is located in a old, rustic barn. It looks like a great place to hold a party. In the near vicinity of the barn is a grassy flat area on the hill that is a popular spot on which to exchange marriage vows.
It was only afterwards, when I was doing some research for this blog post, that I discovered that the “ceremony hilltop” boasts a 360-degree view of Capay Valley. If only I had known, I would have loved to check out the view!
It was then time to head back to the car, and make our way to the third, and last, stop on the SacTown Bites Capay Valley Farm Tour. We had all enjoyed our time at Taber Ranch.
We walked down the path to the parking lot, and headed towards the Seka Hills Olive Mill & Tasting Room.
