Upcoming Events – (UPDATED 12/15/17)
Finding upcoming events and things to do in Sacramento is not difficult.
I happen to be a big fan of Sacramento and the Sacramento region, so a recent headline in the Sacramento Bee really caught my eye. The headline read “Colbert trashes capital in interview with ‘Lady Bird’ star”.
The article went on to explain that late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert was interviewing Saoirse Ronan the ‘Lady Bird’ lead actress. The film ‘Lady Bird’, written and directed by Sacramento native Greta Gerwig, takes place in Sacramento.

During the discussion about her Irish accent and how she managed to keep it hidden during some of the more challenging scenes, Colbert interrupted saying “I’ve been to Sacramento. I am aware of how boring it is.” Responding to Ronan’s statement that “Sacramento is a beautiful place,” Colbert agreed “Very beautiful, but there is not a lot to do.”
My question is – Just what does Stephen Colbert like to do?
Off the top of my head here is a (partial) checklist of Sacramento amenities:
- Fine dining (I am not even going to try to list a few examples)
- Professional sports teams (Sacramento Kings, Sacramento River Cats, etc.)
- Theatre (California Musical Theatre, B Street Theatre, etc.)
- Museums (Crocker Art Museum, California State Railroad Museum, etc.)
- Art galleries & Art Festivals (First Friday, Second Saturday, etc.)
- Musical Performances (of all types)
- Local craft breweries & local wineries
- Farmer’s Markets
- Historical landmarks (State Capitol Building, Sutter’s Fort, Tower Bridge, etc.)
- Festivals (Farm-to-Fork Festival, Sacramento Music Festival, etc.)
- Parks (Capitol Park, McKinley Park, William Land Park, etc.)
- Sacramento is at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers, and our great weather fosters a variety of outdoor activities and sports such as fishing, kayaking, boating, golf, etc.
If Stephen Colbert ever decides to visit Sacramento again he may want to check out one or more of the following resources to learn about upcoming events and things to do prior to his arrival:
Sacramento Association of Museums
Sacramento Midtown Association
If Stephen Colbert can’t find something interesting to do in Sacramento – it is his problem – not Sacramento!
