(Last UPDATED 8/31/2022) Description of the AAA Sacramento River Cats, a San Francisco Giant affiliated team whose home ballpark is located in West Sacramento. NEW: See Update below.
The Sacramento River Cats has been a hugely popular local sports franchise since Opening Day 2000, their first season.
The AAA Sacramento River Cats became affiliated with the San Francisco Giants in the 2015 season, a popular move with the Sacramento-area Giants fans. The River Cats were previously affiliated with the Oakland A’s (2000-2014).
The Sacramento River Cats played the San Francisco Giants in an exhibition game on March 30 – and the ballpark was packed! I was not in attendance but it sounds as if Giants/River Cats fans had a great time. The Giants won.

Sacramento River Cats v. Colorado Springs Sky Sox
Friends and I recently attended an evening game – the Sacramento River Cats v. the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. It was a beautiful evening and very comfortable weather-wise. Best of all – the River Cats won!
I decided to purchase the $23.00 tickets (Senate section) as opposed to the $18.00 tickets (Assembly section) as my friends from out-of- town had not previously attended a Sacramento River Cats game at Raley Field Sutter Health Park. We had great seats right behind home base – an angle I really enjoyed as I watched the pitcher and batters do their thing.

Also seated in that same area were a number of “scouts”, taking notes and using a radar gun to track the speed of the ball.
All of us were glad for the netting to protect us from stray balls – although quite a few balls sailed over the netting into the seating area as well as into the box seats above us!
Chris Heston, who threw the 17th No Hitter in Giants history in 2015 against the New York Mets, pitched six shutout innings that evening – the best he has done this AAA season.
Attending a day or evening game at Raley Field Sutter Health Park is a great way to spend time with friends and family. I hope to catch another game or two this season.
